My favorite movie is Sherlock Holmes, three reasons why is my favorite movie includes: the impeccable sense of deduction, mystery and crime. Sherlock Holmes is a literary character who needs no real introduction. Everyone has heard of the famous fictitious detective, Sherlock Holmes. That tall, lean, imposing figure has been a part of our collective consciousness for so long that he is permanently ingrained in our minds. Even the smallest children know who he is – he is the adversary of crime and the master of logic, using his keen powers of observation and his brilliant mind to solve some of the most mind-boggling cases of the 19th century. It’s beyond easy to imagine that penetrating gaze, that riveting attention, that mind on the border of insanity.

The first time I saw Sherlock Holmes, I was at my cousins’ house. It was late, and I was tired and in no particular mood to keep my eyes open and watch a film. But I will always be glad that I shifted in my seat and focused my bleary eyes on the television, because after the first scene I was entranced. Taken. Gone. The costumes did it for me. The setting did it for me. Holmes and his faithful side-kick Watson are already on the scene of the latest murder and are delving into the facts and clues it presents. Unknown to the pair, this is only the tip of the iceberg, a mere scratch on the surface of a deliciously deeper plot that threatens to destroy the country.

One of the best parts of the movie was Holmes’ step-by-step plans of attack for dispatching his opponents. Everything plays out slowly in his head before we see it all in real time, perfectly displaying how Holmes is always five steps ahead. Of course, it’s something that can become irritating if overdone, but was definitely portrayed as a healthy dose.

Another reason is the character’s portrayal. Holmes is always very exacting of Watson and those around him, but never more than he is on himself. He takes on each engagement with an enormous sense of purpose and sense of what is inherently right. As many have said, he has his own sense of justice that is at times distinct from the rather blunt and un-nuanced version often displayed by his lemming-like colleagues at Scotland Yard. A loyal teammate with an unfailing moral compass, he is an enormous asset to the companies in which he invests.

Lastly, as Robert Downey Jr. exemplifies so well in the film, Sherlock has a terrific sense of fun and playfulness and mischief- rarely taking himself too seriously. It is always disarming and endears him to Watson and many of his clients. He is respectful and yet irreverent all at once. Still, I came to this film with a sensibility that I did not have when I
