We found that the Cost of Equity for Dell is 8.82%. However, we would also like to calculate the industry average to see if Dell is significantly different from the other competitors. We do this by determining the average Beta of Dell’s main competitors. The information below regarding computer industry leaders was obtained from reuters.com:

After finding the average Beta of the industry, we then calculated the industry’s cost of equity. We determined that Dell was not significantly different from the industry average and is an acceptable representative corporation.

Another aspect that we need to calculate is GCI’s cost of debt. Since we determined that Dell was an appropriate representation for GCI, we turned to Dell’s balance sheet for an accurate estimation of debt.
