1644 – The Tunjuelo’s earthquake: It occured in Bogota city on March 16th 1.644. One of the first earthquakes ever happened in Colombia. It generated the country lost money and people. By the date when it occurred, there are not many information about it.

1875 – The Cucuta’s earthqueake occurred on May 18th 1.875 at 11:15 a.m. As Cucuta was the center of this earthquake, Tachira (a Venezuelan providence) was damaged because this one is located next to it. Moreover, some cities and villes were also affected by this earthquake.

1979 – Tumaco’s earthquake: the day of it was December 12th 1979. A 7,9 magnitude earthquake that destroyed over 1,000 houses. This tragedy generated for about 450 deaths through the Pacific Coast between Tumaco and Guapi (Cauca).

1983 – Popayan: March 31th 1.983. At 8:15 a.m Popayan was affected by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that generated 2.500 houses were destroyed and more than 70% buildings were either damaged or brought down. This earthquake occurred during the celebration of a Holiday week, where many churches were destroyed. It generated over 25% of total deaths.

1985 – Armero: Throughout the history of Colombia the Armero’s earthquake was the most known for people because it destroyed a whole city and also, killed many people. There are stories about how the people were trying to survive under dirt. At 11:30 p.m an avalanche of a river named Lagunilla by the eruption of a popular volcano. This event deleted Armero from the Colombian map. Furthermore, Colombia lost over $1.400 million of pesos, 19 breaches 4.400 houses and more than 25 thousand deaths. Along the history, Armero’s earthquake was the tragedy most known and remembered by Colombian people so far.
