La Psicología es una ciencia relativamente joven, que comenzó su andadura independiente de la Fisiología y de la Filosofía a mediados del siglo XIX. Los primeros psicólogos se dedicaron al estudio de fenómenos de conducta sencillos, aportando explicaciones que, aunque en la actualidad han quedado obsoletas, en su día propiciaron el crecimiento de la disciplina hasta alcanzar el actual status deciencia de la conducta.

Uno de los primeros psicólogos, para muchos el padre de la Psicología, fue William James.
