Gender Equality

Nowadays gender equality is a much discussed topic; however what is equality of gender? ,and what is gender?, that’s why it is important , before starting, define each of these two terms. Equality is a social value and tries to ensure that all people have the same conditions of life and work, worthy and equal, unless there is a difference due to the social extract, sex or gender they belong. “Under the law, all human beings are completely equal”. (Álvarez de Lara, 1790).

And gender can be defined as the designation of what is considered typical of women (female) or males (male). Social roles may be affected by various theories, one of them is the sexual role, in which society imposes what is masculine and what is feminine. Another theory is social inequality because of biological differences "Men and women have always been sexually different."

The concept of gender equality based on idea that all are equal in all aspects: political, economic, social, educational, and therefore have the same rights. The goal is not that women and men are equal but to get them to have equal opportunities in life.

“The expansion of the educational system, the labor market and the health services in the past 50 years, raised that a large segment of women "left" domestic to enter universities and the workforce (Álvarez de Lara, 1790)”.

According to the United Nations, "Gender equality means equality that all levels of education and in all fields of work, the equitable control over resources and equal representation in public and political life."

Gender equality does not imply that women and men are the same, but that they have equal value and should be accorded equal treatment. Gender-based discrimination permeates all cultures, and is often manifested in the laws, policies, and practices of institutions. For example, in many countries women are not afforded the same inheritance rights and property rights as men, nor are they allowed to testify in court.

For women, is not easy living in two worlds, which have to combine to not look bad in any of them. On the one hand, its personal, professional achievements and aspirations. On the other hand, it’s the role as mother and wife at home, original, identity, inherited culturally, place does not waive that from the moment that decide to marry, but that, when combined with external activities may cause conflict, not only by physical and mental effort that entails, but because of the effect it has on itself when placed in a disjunctive or evaluative situation concerning his being and doing female, and the effect that causes his partner, especially when it exceeds the male in the House or at work place (Bush, 1994).
