Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT)

The Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) is a cultural center in the Zona Río district of TijuanaMexico. The center opened 20 October 1982, and accommodates more than a million visitors per year.

A major feature of the complex is an OMNIMAX cinema designed by architects Pedro Ramirez Vazques and Manuel Rossen Morrison. It is the only IMAX cinema in Tijuana, and has come to be popularly known as La Bola ("The Ball"). The cinema, which uses a 360-degree projector to surround viewers with a panoramic image, has 308 seats.

Inaugurated on October 20, 1982 as part of the National Fund for Social Activities (FONAPAS), which sought to strengthen national identity on the northern border of Mexico and also encourage cultural tourism from the United States. It is the institution that concentrates the most broad and diverse cultural offerings of the northwest region and the unique infrastructure of the Ministry of Culture, formerly National Council for Culture and Arts, outside the capital. For three years he hosted the Borders Cultural Program and in 1986 achieved its approval to exercise autonomy with its own budget and draw up its work program and integrate its own Board of Directors.

Areas that comprise

  • IMAX dome, created in 1988, was the second room with IMAX format in the country. He has designed more than 80 films in this format. It has 307 seats.
  • Hall: with a capacity of 995 people, has orchestra pit for 60 musicians and is the largest auditorium in the city. It is home to the OBC.
  • The Cube: a space museum and art exhibition composed of a hall, three terraces, a mezzanine and English called corridor. It has technical specifications to present any kind of national or international exhibition.
  • Vizcaino station: a courtyard dedicated to exhibitions of local character, the name takes you through the Vizcaino Valencia Ruben sculpture in place.
  • Californias Museum: takes a look at the history of Baja California from prehistoric times, has 2 200 square meters of exhibition and was opened in 2000.
  • Carlos Monsivais room: a cinema created in 2011 with the aim of being "a meeting place for enthusiastic public, directors, writers, videographers, actors and public and private institutions in the film industry." It has 270 seats where world cinema, Mexican and Latin American film projects, in addition to film for children and youth.
  • Aquarius: on 26 November 2012 was incorporated into the aquarium that houses more than 500 species in the Gulf of California and the Pacific Ocean.
  • Botanical Garden: a space of 6400 square meters which preserves 150 plant species of the Baja California Sur region.
