Pre- kindergarten and kindergarten:
In USA the preschool education (or infant education) is the provision of learning to children before the commencement of statutory and obligatory education; children usually begin their preschool education between the ages of three and five. In some places, such as the United States, preschool precedes Kindergarten and the normal primary school system.
In the other hand, in Chile preschool education also known as:“educación parvularia o pre-escolar” comprises the child population from six months to six years, in contrast with the range from three to five years of the preschool education system in USA. As in USA’s education system, preschool education precedes Kidergarten and the normal primary school system.
In the United States, Kindergarten: (from German Kindergarten, literally "children's garden") Is a preschool educational institution for children. The term kindergarten is used around the world to describe a variety of different institutions that have been developed for children ranging from the ages of two to seven, depending on the country concerned. In the United States, kindergarten is usually part of the K-12 educational system. While kindergarten was once viewed as a separate part of the elementary program, it is now generally considered as the first year of formal education and has been fully integrated into the school system. In most state and private schools, children begin kindergarten at age 5 to 6 and attend for one year.
In Chile there are kindergartens too, they are known under the name of “jardines infantiles o jardines para niños”, these kindergartens, instead of being monitored and being part of the K-12 educational system, are under the coordination and planification of the public service that forms part of the Education Ministry: “JUNJI” (which stands for “Junta Nacional de Jardines Infantiles”). It is not yet mandatory and obviously is not yet considered as the first year of formal education, however this situation will change in 2015 due to the law project announced and then approved by the Chilean president Sebastián Piñera on May 21st, 2013, law project in which he stipulates kindergarten as mandatory before entering into the primary education, and also stipulates it as the first year of formal education.
Primary education in the USA:In the United States primary education is the first stage of education. It is preceded by pre-school or nursery education and is followed by secondary education. This stage of education is usually known as elementary education.
It is mandatory for children to receive primary education in most of the countries, typically primary education is provided in schools, where the child will stay in regular advancing classes until they complete it and move on to secondary education, however it is permissible for parents to provide it. The major goals of primary education are achieving basic literacy and numeracy and the establishment of foundations in science, mathematics, geography, history and other social sciences among all the pupils.
Children are usually placed in classes with one teacher who will be primarily responsible for their education and welfare for that year. This teacher may be assisted to varying degrees by specialist teachers in certain subject areas, often music or physical education. The continuity with a single teacher and the opportunity to build up a close relationship with the class is a notable feature of the primary education system.
In Chile primary education is known as “Enseñanza básica” and corresponds to the first cycle of education, as in United States, its length is of eight years which are divided into two cycles and eighth grades, being the ideal age range for children: from six to thirteen years, unlike in the Unites states in which the primary education comprises kindergarten and the grades
