DEFINITION OF TERMS

Child development refers to the biological and psychological and emotional changes that occur in human beings between birth and the end of adolescence, as the individual progresses from dependency to increasing autonomy.

Physical development can refer to the gross and fine motor skills, rates of physical growth in a baby and child.

Emotional development refers to a child's increasing awareness and control of their feelings and how they react to these feelings in a given situation.

Cognitive development is the emergence of the ability to think and understand.

Classroom management is a term used by teachers to describe the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students

Learning theories are conceptual frameworks that describe how information is absorbed, processed, and retained during learning.

Learning difficulties is when a person has significant learning problems in an academic area.

Bilingual involves teaching academic content in two languages, in a native and secondary language with varying amounts of each language used in accordance with the program model.

Language is the human capacity for acquiring and using complex systems of communication, and a language is any specific example of such a system.

Literacy is the ability to read for knowledge and interest, write coherently, and think critically about the written word.

Theory is a contemplative and rational type of abstract or generalizing thinking, or the results of such thinking.

Approach means to move close to something.

Learning is acquiring new, or modifying existing, knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences and may involve synthesizing different types of information

A first language (also native language, mother tongue, arterial language, or L1) is the language(s) a person has learned from birth

A second language or L2 is any language learned after one's first language

Multiple Intelligences as a model of intelligence that differentiates intelligence into specific (primarily sensory) "modalities", rather than seeing it as dominated by a singel general ability.

Behavior is the range of actions and mannerisms made by organisms, systems, or artificial entities in conjunction with their environment.

Role work is a regular activity performed in exchange for payment.

Pair work is learners working together in pairs
