Would you prefer to be born blind or become one?

When someone asks you if you rather be born blind or become one, what

would be your answer? My answer would most definitively be to become

blind. As horrible as it sounds, I would rather become blind than to be born

blind for many reasons, that include nonetheless having some experience

with ones surroundings and senses as a whole.

In my opinion, Being born blind leaves you ignorant from true colors, lights

and splendor. Theres no possible way for a person born blind to actually

know which color is which, how bright is the light and so how the moon

shines at night with splendor. Many people born blind still tell you which

colors are which and many describe them. Often describing not only colors

but going into depth of details of amazingly descriptive detail. Nevertheless

a born blind person has never actually seen this, they use imagination

together with acquired knowledge to decipher all of this characteristics.

Now becoming blind does not leave you ignorant from true colors, lights

and splendor. In my opinion the accumulation of a lifetime of memories

before becoming blind allows us to use our imagination in a most advanced

way, as we have already the memories of colors, light, events and

characteristics imprinted in our memory, ready to be accessed in dreams or

in the failure of ones eye.

For what is worth, I would much rather become blind for the simple reason

that If I would in fact become blind, my accumulated experiences stored in

my memory together with my imagination would give me a more precise

insight of descriptions anyone would tell me about things after I become

blind. For example, sitting at the beach at night with the sky full of stars

while my loved one expresses her self to me telling me details of how

beautiful the evening is, I would be able to relate to past experiences,

memories and characteristics that a born blind person would most definitely

be able to imagine, a born blind person would be only able to relate by

learning not by actual “feeling of vue”.
