PUNCTUATION MARKS
Comma (,) is a punctuation mark that has the same shape as an apostrophe but it differs from being placed on the baseline of the text. It is used mainly to separate parts of a sentence, such as clauses, and items in lists.
Es un signo de puntuación que señala una breve pausa que se produce dentro de una oración o para separar distintas oraciones y frases que se refieran al mismo tema.
E.g. He hit the ball, dropped the bat, and ran to first base.
Dash (-) is a punctuation mark that is similar to a hyphen or minus sign but differs from both symbols in length and function. It is used to denote a break in a sentence or to set off parenthetical statements.
El guion es un signo ortográfico auxiliar en forma de una pequeña raya horizontal escrito a la mitad de la altura de la letra minúscula.
E.g. All four of them—Bob, Jeffrey, Jason, and Brett—did well in college.
Period (.) is a punctuation mark at the end of a sentence. It shows that the sentence has finished.
El punto es un signo de puntuación. Se usa principalmente para indicar el final de un enunciado, de un párrafo o de un texto que no sea exclamativo ni interrogativo.
E.g. The cat is in the park.
A question mark is used when writing a question, to make an inquiry, or to ask something.
El signo de interrogación es un signo de puntuación que denota una pregunta.
E.g. Rosie, have you done your homework?
An exclamation mark (!) is used to write about a strong emoticon, or to write the words a person shouted. It can be used to make a statement stronger or more forceful.
Signos de admiración se utilizan para señalar el carácter exclamativo de una oración. Se escriben para empezar y finalizar una oración exclamativa, exhortativa o imperativa.

An apostrophe (‘) can be used to show that something belongs to something else. It can also be used to put two small words together (contractions).
El apóstrofo indica por lo general la elisión de una letra. También se utiliza para indicar uno o más fonemas suprimidos por razones métricas (en poesía, especialmente) o simulando una pronunciación dialectal.
E. g. It was the boy's dog. What’s your name?
Quotation marks (“) are used around the words that people have said, or direct speech. They are used in pairs.
