Reseña.

Geometry as word has two Greek roots : geo = earth and metron = measure; in other words, it means " land measurement " . Its origin, some three thousand years before Christ, dates back to the Middle East, particularly the Old Egypt, was needed to measure agricultural land and construction of pyramids and monuments. This geometric design was accepted without proof, it was a product of practice.

2 personajes.

Euclid was another great Greek mathematician , the third century BC, who in his famous work entitled "The Elements " , collects , sorts and organizes all knowledge of geometry to his time and , except for some minor variations, are the same knowledge They are still taught today.

There are other geometries that do not accept that Euclidean postulate , but accept other principles that give rise to so-called " non-Euclidean geometries ," such as the one created in the nineteenth century by the Russian Lobatschevsky .

Aplicaciones en la ciencia y tecnología.

In Astronomy it has its practical application in applied physics, mechanics, architecture , cartography , astronomy , navigation , surveying , ballistics, etc. It is useful in the preparation of designs and even in making crafts .

On the Survey topographic maps using the system of representation of contour maps showing ground elevation using lines connecting the points with the same height with respect to a reference plane .

It is the theoretical basis of descriptive geometry and technical drawing . - It also gives substance to instruments like the compass, theodolite , the pantograph the global positioning system .

Reflexión.

In the real world geometry it is everywhere. Examples include buildings , airplanes, automobiles and maps. The houses are made of basic geometric structures. Some skyscrapers have windows made of rectangles and squares. The John Hancock Tower in Chicago is created with a huge bucket . In a car , tires and lights are circular. The Great Pyramids of Egypt are made of geometric shapes. Computer graphics and design are based on computational geometry. The geometric figures are used to construct images.
