Macroeconomics is the economic field that can explain us the reasons that cause unemployment around the world. Lewis, in his article, “The Causes of Unemployment in less Developed Countries and some Research topics” argues that there are several ways by which unemployment can be developed and increased. One of the main reasons of unemployment is overpopulation. This condition only occurs on third world countries. There are others causes for unemployment such as restrictions or limitations on exports, that the susceptibility to import in less developed countries is too high, the devaluation of the currency, etc. All these reasons cause that a country decreases the levels of productivity. Therefore, less production will result in an increase in the unemployment rate. Another factor which marked the increase of unemployment rates in some countries is the high level of existing corruption, which generates a misuse of power to get benefits to themselves. This brings as a consequence some types of crimes such as financial theft, this money could well be used for the generation of jobs and the improvement in the economy. However, the money is usually used for illicit business. A country that spends more than they receive for taxes generated within the country is generating unemployment.
