Dorian´s harmful manners vs our Colombian society

I have found out an interesting story throughout the Oscar Wilde’s masterpiece “The Picture of Dorian Gray”- book, and it might be the reflection of our Colombian society.  Based on the chapters 1 & 2, and connecting the content to our society, we can say that every human being in most of the cases hides strong desires that take some of us to live and create unimaginable situations due to the fear to become older. So within the liquid times, our society through means such as mass media imposes ways of being and beauty stereotypes that somehow awake narcissism in people´s deepest inner being, ending up associating for example beauty with success. That reality could push some people to behave in unacceptable ways, since they feel they should do whatever is necessary to be successful in their lives.

In addition, I personally believe that Dorian is the representation of this kind of society that pretends being friendly and generous. However, his soul would be corrupted as a result of being influenced by other person, and surrounded by the fear of getting older. What is more, he starts living the ecstasy and frenzy without caring about what others feel. Dorian in a metaphorical way symbolizes those people from our communities who follow certain trends and dare doing unbelievable things to be accepted in any group, ideological movement, organization, political party, among others. As a consequence, we have witnessed how people hurt themselves and others. Finally, I must say that to face the new realities that seem to be such crude, we have to assume ourselves as unique, and protect life over all.

To make this review easy to write you should find a simplified version of your favorite book. You will connect its content to the reality of the country, your city, your town or neighborhood. Use expressions to give opinions.
