Culture refers to the beliefs, ideas, traditions and behaviors portrayed by certain communities and are passed from one generation to the other. Cultural diversity involves the changes that have taken place comparing what was deeply rooted in culture in ancient times and how it has been changing with time. Psychological behavior and processes are analyzed under biological bases and is known as the biological psychology. It can also be termed as behavioral neuroscience. On the other hand, the study of the nervous system is called neuroscience.

Changes in the recent decades have been experienced in many fields including reproductive and care giving roles, education, work, personal relationships and health among others. These changes occur among girls and women who initially had different sexual orientations, social classes, life experiences and ethnicities (Kim, 2008). Although stresses of life which include discrimination and oppression, role overload among others and health matters became major problems experienced due to these changes, the positive effects which were experienced included improved quality of life, equality and increased opportunities among the girls and women.

Research has however shown that the girls and women when oppressed or are faced with a problem get more depressed, develop eating disorders and have develop anxieties more than the boys and men. In psychological practices with women, lots of guidance from professionals is needed because of the ever changing ways of life and practices among the girls and women in the society.

Kim argues that since the changes that occur among the girls and women are increasing, it has also been noted that most of the people having mental disorders are the girls and women. Not only mental disorders, but also most of the psychological problems have been proved to be increasing among the women as the changes also increase with time. In girls and women, the ways in which culture handles matters relating to depression is very different compared to when it is to boys and men. Culture has also proved to be gender bias in the psychological practices (2008).

Girls of color and those women considered to be living in poverty are always affected by how insensitive therapists are to cultural values and morals, racial stereotypes, economic and social conditions as well as social interaction of the gender and race. This can lead to problems which are either developed internally or even externally.
