Grammar of phrasal verbs

Unit 12

PHRASAL VERBS (verbos que llevan una o dos preposiciones y toman otro significado)

Los verbs pueden ser transitive e intransitive.

Los transitive verbs son los que llevan complemento directo (She gave it back)

Los transitive verbs pueden y no pueden separarse.

Si el complemento es un pronombre,éste va entre el verbo y la preposición.

(bring him back)

Los intransitive verbs no llevan complemento directo.(She drank milk)

Los intransitive verbs no se pueden separar. ( She looked after her father

Los phrasal verbs de 3 palabras no se pueden separar.

She had to put up with the noise

1.-- take off = (s). = remove = sacar

2.- take off = suddenly increased = crecer, subir, aumentar

3.- take off = imitate = imitar

4.- take off = (N) = leave the ground. = despegar

5.- get away with = (N) perform some illegal act without being punished, not get caught = salirse con la suya.

6- get away = (S). escape. = escapar

7- take back = (S). = withdraw = retirar

8.- take back = (S) = take someone to the past

9.- look into = (S). = investigate = investigar.

10.- find out = (S). = discover that he has been something wrong

11.-get by = (N) = Have money for the things you need and not more. ( arreglárselas)

11.- give back = (S). = restore (a thing) to his owner , return.

12.- bring (someone) round = (S) = persuade.

13.- bring round = restore to consciousness. = volver al estado consciente.

14.- look up = (N) = try to find

15.- look into =(N) = investigate

15.- send off =(S) ask for something to be sent to you.

16.- send off = (S) = say good bye to a person

15.- make up = (S) = become reconciled

16.- make up = (S) = invent

17.- make up for ( N) = compensate

18.- make up (one´s mind) = decide

19.- go up = (I.) = increase in number. = aumentar.

20.- go up = (I) = subir

21- come across = (S). = find by chance. = encontrar por casualidad.

22.- come across = (I) = presentarse como, mostrarse

23.- get by = survive financially = arreglárselas economicamente

24.- put up = raise (S) = ( prices )

25.- put up with = ( I) = tolerate

26.- meet up = ( I) = meet someone informally.

27.- sell back = (S) sell again = revender

28.-help out = (I)help

29.-save up (I)= not to spend the money = ahorrar

Study the meanings and use the phrasal verbs in the following sentences:
