Comparison between Mexico and United States.

Even though Mexico and United States are in America, we can find a lot of differences between both countries, and similarities too. Mexico and United States are great countries, with a lot of diversity and different cultures. I will talk about some of the differences and similarities about culture celebrations like special nationalism days (holidays), birthdays, and Christmas. In the United States, they often celebrate the same cultures, but do they really? Read on to learn more about the comparison of this two beautiful countries.

Birthdays in Mexico are more than just a common day; however, it is a really big celebration. Families from near and far get together along with friends and neighbors for a day of festivities. The two main differences is that in Mexico we have the Piñata, and of course the food. “The piñata is a container often made of papier mache, pottery, or cloth; it is decorated, and filled with small toys or candy, or both, and then broken as part of a ceremony or celebration”. The most common foods you can find in a birthday party are Mexican rice pudding (arroz con leche) , churros, tacos with a great salsa. Drinks are important too like tequila, agua de Jamaica, agua de orchata. Probably the only two similarities here are that the United States and Mexico, both have big cakes, and they both sing songs.

In both countries they celebrate different nationalism days. In Mexico we celebrate plenty of days that we feel really proud of. Here are some of them: “February 5th - Mexican Constitution Day, March 21th - Birthday of Benito Juarez, March 30th to April 10th - Celebration of Holy Week, May 1st - Labor Day, May 5th - Battle of Puebla (school gets suspended according to SEP), May 15th - Professor Day (school gets suspended according to SEP), September 16th - Independence Day, November 20th - Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution”. In the United States they feel really proud about their nationalism days too. Here are some of the them: Easter, Thanksgiving Day, The Fourth of July (Independence Day), Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day. Both countries share Christmas and New Year’s Eve; likewise, both countries share different holidays or nationalism days.

Christmas is probably the most famous holiday around the world, and the most fun too. Even though it has the same meaning, this two countries can have differences and similarities. The tradition comes from Germany, and it’s based on the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Mexico and the United States, they both decorate their houses with a lot of lights; however, in Mexico they decorate their houses with religious themes, for example: the “Posada” (candlelight processions that represents Jose's and Maria's path to Nazareth), and El nacimiento, and those are religious representations that most Mexicans do for decoration; otherwise, In United States they are more focused on the gifts and having huge dinners with great decorations. At the end the meaning is the same, to spend time with the family, and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
