Culture can be seen from the interaction of many things such as history, activities and developments. It is also represented in the form of people’s lives. Living in two different countries is a unique experience that gives someone a new way of thinking. In my case, I have lived in Colombia and now, in the United States. Despite bearing some minor similarities, the differences between these two countries are notable in geography, festivities, economics and food.

Colombia is locate in South America, and it is divided into five regions: Andina, Pacifica, Caribe, Amazonica and Orinoquia. It has thirty-two states. Colombia is bordered to the north by Panama, to the east by Venezuela and Brazil, south to Peru and Ecuador, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. Colombia is the only South American country with coastlines on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, which has several islands as the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. Colombia has the largest number of species per unit area in the world, and it is the second most diverse country in the world after Brazil. The United Sates is locate in North America and is divided into 48 states and Washington DC, the capital district. Between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, it is bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. The state of Alaska is in the northwest of the continent, with Canada to the east. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, and is the only U.S. state that is not in America. The country also possesses several territories in the Caribbean and Pacific.

Throughout history, the population of various ethnic groups of the country have developed a wide range of cultural expressions in music, art and literature. In all regions of the country, the exaltation and diversity of Colombians are expressed and celebrated during carnivals and cultural festivities as the carnival of Blacks and whites in Pasto, the Manizales Fair, the Barranquilla Carnival, the Medellin Flower Fair, the Cali Fair, the Biennial Bogotá International Theater Festival and the Colombian Folkloric Festival in Ibague. The United States celebrates holidays due to events in the history of America and Christian traditions. Thanksgiving is the main day of traditional American holiday. On this day thanks is given for the welfare of a person. It is usually celebrated at a family party. Independence Day (also known as the Fourth of July) celebrates the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the country from Britain. It is generally observed by parades throughout the day and fireworks shows at night. Halloween has become a holiday celebrated by children and teens who traditionally dress up in costumes and go door to door asking for candy.
