The first idea of a car appeared in 1769, along with the invention of the steam engine. The steam engine had a metal frame with seats and could carry several people. For almost 40 years people used these enormous cars that made very disturbing noises.

In 1806, the internal combustion engine was invented, that ran with liquid fuel. Immediately, the car had extraordinary success all over the world and soon became the main transportation methods.

The first series automobile was initiated by Karl Benz in 1888 in Germany. 12 years later, France and USA started to produce series cars.

In the beginning of the 20th century, the automobile industry explodes in Western Europe, with France producing more than 30.000 units, representing almost 50% of the world’s entire production, in 1903.

In 1902, the US gives to the world the Olds Motor Vehicle Company, meaning the Oldsmobile. Little after that, the Cadillac, Winton Automobile and Ford Motor Company appeared on the market.

Between 1908 and 1927, the Ford Model T forever changed the industry in terms of design and number of cars created.

In 1922, the first car to have a unitary body is invented: the Lancia Lambda.

This period was probably the most prosperous for the car industry, names like Mercedes Benz, Austin, BMW, Nissan, Citroen and Maserati becoming main players on the automobile market.

The Second World War puts a stop on the industry’s development, but the US gave the world, through Chrysler, the Jeep, because of the necessity to have all-road vehicles on the European battlefield.

After the War, the automobile industry picks up itself and continues to develop and create more cars.

In 1949, all over the US you could find the 8 cylinder V motors, with high compression, or the V8 motor, to put it slightly.

Cadillac, General Motors and Oldsmobile started to turn their attention to the cars aerodynamics.

In Italy, Enzo Ferrari launches the Ferrari 250, and Lancia the V6 motor, called Aurelia.

In 1963, the Porsche 911 sees the asphalt, becoming on of the greatest sport car in history. After the 70s, the SUV appears in USA, the Jeep Wagoneer. In Europe, the first SUV is created by Great Britain, and it is called Range Rover.

In 1978 the Maserati Bora comes to the market, being the fastest car ever, reaching almost 180 miles/ hour.

In the modern era, cars have become more of a necessity than a luxury for many people. Automobile technology continues to evolve with cars becoming safer and cleaner for the environment.
