The Roman Empire was an autocratic form of government and it occupied a really large territory holding around the Mediterranean in Europe, Africa and Asia.

The first two centuries were a period of stability and prosperity that the historians like to call Pax Romana which means roman peace, while this time was passing those who were emperators of Rome build important buildings that nowadays we can still watch.

a) THE PANTHEON

The pantheon is a temple build dedicated to all the gods of the pagan Rome, The building is circular with a portico of large granite Corinthian columns under a pediment. A rectangular vestibule links the porch to the rotunda, which is under a coffered, concrete dome, with a central opening (oculus) to the sky. but there is a little detail of this remaining building, this pantheon was actually build by the emperor Hadrian in 117-138 AD and it was to replace an old pantheon that was built by Marcus Agrippa which was burnt to the ground in the 80 AD and this is know just because the emperor Hadrian made an inscription that said “M. AGRIPPA.L.F COSTERIUM.FECIT” which means Marcus Agrippa son of Lucius, having been consul three times made it, but when we see the other constructions made by Marcus Agrippa we will not find any inscriptions on them so that is why we know that this pantheon was made like in honor of Marcus Agrippa but by emperor Hadrian.

b) THE ROMAN COLISEUM

The Roman Coliseum was started to build between the 73-75 AD by Vespasian who was at that time the emperor of Rome, his rule was the one that followed the infamous Nero and here is the detail of why the Roman coliseum was built, The people of Rome in the Vespasian time was low of confidence and morale and that was due the burning of Rome the Amphitheatre of Statilius Taurus which was an arena was totally destroyed and after Nero’s death well the people went to this depression as I mentioned and this is why Vespasian had to get support back from the people and his idea was to demolish Nero’s Palace and construct a permanent arena for housing the gladiators
