The Evil Queen and her want for revenge

As we know from our childhood story of Snow White and the Seven dwarfs and in the stories we have now studied, we know that the evil queen is very jealous of Snow White, and wants her killed. As crazy as it sounds, she only wants her dead because she is more beautiful than her, according to what her magical mirror said. She wanted nothing more but to be the most beautiful of them all. This making her hate Snow White and wanting nobody any better than her, she immediately sends someone to take Snow White out into the woods and kill her. The day after when she asks her magical mirror who was the most beautiful of them all, he tells her everything about Snow White and where she was with who. Then again, she immediately creates an evil plan to kill her with poison.

In each version that we have read there are some changes in the way she was tried to be poisoned and killed but generally they are the same. Having in mind that this is a story for children, they make it not seem so bad, but the evil is there. In Snow White and the seven Dwarfs, Snow White is tented by the old peasant into eating the poisonous apple, and because of her innocence and lack of malice, she eats it and immediately falls unconscious, which is the most alike to the Disney version. In the Grimm brothers’ version, the old peasant tricks her three different times, and each time something happens that she wakes again. First with the lace, then the poisoned comb that makes her faint while she is being brushed, and last but not least, the poisoned apple.

Instead, in the Once Upon a Time episode, we can totally see a more dramatic and intense problem with Snow White and the soon to be Queen, who turns evil basically because of her fault, and no other intention but to harm Snow, and make her life miserable. Leaving out the present day part of the series, at first we see nothing but this young nice girl called Regina, who had an evil mother that sometimes even obligated her to be some ways and even threatened her with magic every once in a while, which Regina hated. Her mother always wanted what was best for her, but as she was trying to be a good mother, she was only thinking of herself and her dreams, and wanted Regina to do just as she wanted, which was very wrong. Poor Regina was just falling in love with this young man called Daniel, who basically worked for them. The day Regina saved that young little girl; she finds out that she is the daughter of no one else than the King. This is how the King came to want to marry Regina, which her mother finds absolutely wonderful. After Regina talking to little Snow White and explaining to her why she did not want to marry her father, and telling her all about love. Little Snow White, thinking she understands, is tricked by Regina’s evil mother and makes her tell her everything thinking that she did not want Regina to lose her mother like she did.

Evil mother does nothing but what she wants, goes off to the farm and finds Regina with young Daniel about to leave. Of course she tricks Regina into showing her that she cares for her happiness, and kills Daniel right in front of her. After a while, Regina now understands everything. Her mother tricked her into saving Snow because she knew the entire plan for the King, and now she knows that everything was Snow White’s fault for her stupid innocence and telling her mother all that she promised not to tell. Therefore, this gives no choice for the soon to be Queen but to turn out evil, and make Snow’s life miserable and completely impossible.

The series, Once Upon a Time, always has a way to twist things, and in that episode, we could see really why Regina could turn out to be so evil when she was just a young nice girl who fell in love. We can see how things can turn out to be just because of one little secret that spilled, and see how important it can be to someone a promise, and even more
