Presentation:

The purpose of this glossary is to compile different terms that will be related in the field of Psychology, which will allow a greater understanding regarding the use of these words in the academic and professional field. Also, the document will serve as a guide for anyone who does not know some terms that are used in this professional career.

ADDICTION / noun.

Adicción

• Definition: Dependence on a substance, harmful habit.

• Definición: Dependencia a una sustancia, hábito dañino.

o Example: The addiction to cigarettes.

o Ejemplo: La adicción al cigarrillo.

Anxiety / noun

Ansiedad

• Definition: It is a state of mind that is identified by great restlessness, extreme insecurity and intense excitement.

• Definición: Es un estado mental que se identifica por una gran inquietud, una extrema inseguridad y una intensa excitación.

o Example: He was anxious about the exam.

o Ejemplo: Sentía ansiedad por el examen.

Approach / noun

• Definition: It is a point of view in which it is taken when executing an investigation, an analysis, a theorization, etc.

• Definición: Es un punto de vista en la cual se toma a la hora de ejecutar una investigación, un análisis, una teorización, etc.

o Example: A correct approach.

o Ejemplo: Un enfoque acertado.

• Definition: Refers to the reactions that a living being has according to the environment or space in which it is located.

• Definición: Se refiere a las reacciones que tiene un ser vivo según el ambiente o espacio en el que se encuentre.

o Example: Their behavior leaves much to be desired.

o Ejemplo: Su comportamiento deja mucho que desear.

• Definition: It is a current of psychology in which it is based on observing the behavior or behavior of people.

• Definición: Es una corriente de la psicología en la cual se basa en observar el comportamiento o la conducta de las personas.

o Example: Behaviorism is a learning theory.

o Ejemplo: El conductismo es una teoría de aprendizaje.

Boundary/ noun

• Definition: A line or point that indicates that it should not be exceeded in which it indicates a term or an end of life situations.

• Definición: Una línea o punto que indica que no debe sobrepasarse en el cual señala un término o un fin de situaciones de la vida.

o Example: A person who does not set boundaries in their interpersonal relationships may seem very open and receptive.

o Ejemplo: Una persona que no establezca límites en sus relaciones interpersonales puede parecer muy abierta y receptive.

• Definition: It is an abuse or behavior of a certain individual that is aggressive towards the other, which is constantly repeated in order to produce harm.

• Definición: Es un maltrato o una conducta de un determinado individuo que es agresivo hacia el otro, que constantemente se repite con el fin de producir daño.

o Example: Giving’s people nickname because of their physical appearance is verbal bullying.

o Ejemplo: Ponerles apodo a las personas por su apariencia física es un bullying verbal.

• Definition: Change is a dynamic typical of individuals, the result of complex processes of trauma, self-realization, or mutation and resistance to it.

• Definición: El cambio es una dinámica propia de los individuos, fruto de complejos procesos de trauma, de autorrealización, o de mutación y resistencia a la misma.

o Example: Psychological changes that occur in adolescence can be: Character and behavior problems.

o Ejemplo: Cambios psicológicos que se dan en la adolescencia pueden ser: Problemas de carácter y conducta.

• Definition: Person who uses the services of a professional or a company.

• Definición: Persona que utiliza los servicios de un profesional o de una empresa.

o Example: Person who asks for help to control their anxiety.

o Ejemplo: Persona que pide ayuda para controlar su ansiedad.

• Definition: Is that which belongs to or is related to knowledge.

• Definición: Es aquello que pertenece o que está relacionado al conocimiento.

o Example: Cognitive dexterity in memory shows a capacity which can retain the stimuli of a movie we see and hear.

o Ejemplo: La destreza cognitiva en la memoria muestra una capacidad la cual se puede retener los estímulos de una película que vemos y oímos.

• Definition: Is the voluntary act of transmitting information between living beings.

• Definición: Es el acto voluntario de transmisión de información entre seres vivos.

o Example: The communication of two individuals about the problems of society.

o Ejemplo: La comunicación de dos individuaos acerca de los problemas de la sociedad.

Conduct / noun

• Definition: Indicates acting in the face of external or internal stimuli of the individual or animal.

• Definición: Indica el actuar ante los estímulos externos o internos del individuo u animal.

o Example: Eating chocolate for pleasure would be an appetitive behavior.

o Ejemplo: Comer chocolate por placer sería una conducta apetitiva.

• Definition: A conflict is a struggle or dispute between two or more parties.

• Definición: Un conflicto es una lucha o disputa entre dos o más partes.

o Example: The conflict of individuals in a disagreement from work.

• Definition: It is a face-to-face meeting where two or more people discuss their different points of view, opinions, solutions.

• Definición: Es un encuentro cara a cara donde dos o más personas discuten sus diferentes puntos de vista, opiniones, soluciones.

o Example: It is a psychological resource that works halfway between thought and emotion.

o Ejemplo: Es un recurso psicológico que trabaja a caballo entre el pensamiento y la emoción.

Conscience / noun

• Definition: Knowledge of good and evil that allows the person to morally judge reality and actions, especially their own.

• Definición: Conocimiento del bien y del mal que permite a la persona enjuiciar moralmente la realidad y los actos, especialmente los propios.

o Example: Feeling emotions. Feeling happiness. Feeling the love of others.

o Ejemplo: El sentir emociones. El sentir felicidad. El sentir el amor de los demás.

• Definition: It is the act of dealing with a matter with one or more people.

• Definición: Es el acto de tratar un asunto con una o varias personas.

o Example: A query from a child who is restless, does not study, complains at school about him, gives as an answer to what happens to him is that the child is very nervous.

o Ejemplo: Una consulta de un niño que se muestra inquieto, no estudia, se quejan en el colegio de él, da como respuesta de lo que le pasa es que el niño es muy nervioso.
