Did you know that Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (National Geographic). Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier (National Geographic). Global warming not only affects us but the whole planet. The planet’s temperatures are getting higher and higher with the years. Although, the purpose of this essay is to inform the reader about the three main effects of global warming.

The first effect of global warming is the way that affects the weather. Since some decades hot days are hotter, rainfall and flooding are heavier, hurricanes stronger and droughts more severe. The most visible effect of global warming is the intensification of weathers in our daily lives (National Wildlife magazine). Us as a tropical island can noticed that hurricanes seasons are longer and with more tropical storms. The 20th century's last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, according to a number of climate studies (National Geographic).

The second effect it’s one that we’ll regret in the future. Tropical forests are home to more than half of all species on Earth, and their destruction means the extinction of countless plant and wildlife species, many still unknown to science (Conservation International). Also, forests are important ecosystems in the balance of nature, they provide us thing for human daily basics. As matter of fact, forests are the lungs of planet Earth. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, halting deforestation and restoring already degraded areas while adopting more forest-friendly agriculture and management practices would prevent the emission of more than 300 billion tons of carbon dioxide over the next 40 years (Conservation International).

The third effect can sink what we know today. Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting, for example, Montana's Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910 (National Geographic). Sea levels had several increase in the past few decades. Global average sea level rose at an average rate of around 1.7 ± 0.3 mm per year from 1950 to 2009 and at a satellite-measured average rate of about 3.3 ± 0.4 mm per year from 1993 to 2009 (Nicholls, Robert J.; Cazenave, Anny (18 June 2010)). Consequently, it will continue increasing if we don’t do something about it.

As shown above, these just some of the effects that global warming can have. Global warming is something that should concern all of us, because affects the environment where we live. Not to mention, that we ignore the fact that our planet is suffering and we don’t do anything about it. In conclusion, us as human beings we have an obligation to conserve our planet for our future
