1. Read the following text about Shakira´s life.

Shakira Isabel Mebrarak Ripoll was born on February 2nd 1977. She´s known professionally as Shakira. She is Colombian singer, songwriter, musician, record, producer, dancer, an philanthropist who emerged in the music scene of Colombia and Latin America in the early 1990s. In 1995, she released “Pies Descalzos” witch brought her great fame in Latin American and Spain. Shakira not only has had an amazing career with lots of successful events, but she has also helped many people around the word, Shakira founded the Pies Desclalzos Foundation. It is Colombian charity with special schools for poor children all around Colombia.

During her career, Shakira has performed at a large number on benefit concerts. Among the most famous are the live 8 benefit concert in the July 2005, the Live Earth concert in Hamburg, where she headlined the show, as well as the “Clinton Global Initiative” created by former US President Barack Obama in February 2010 to discuss early childhood development.

She has agitated against the implementation of the Arizona statute SB1070 against illegal immigration, saying that it goes against civil rights. Shakira is UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and is one of their global representatives.

She has participated in some other works, like taking part of the group called “Freshlyground”. To create the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, “Waka Waka (This time for Africa)”

She has also won two Grammy Awards, and has been Golden Globe-nominated.

In every interview she gives, it is very interesting to notice she hasn´t lost her simplicity and her originality. She hasn´t achieved everything in her life; she is just starting.

d) In your opinion….What´s the most important achievement Shakira has had in the life? Who?

On September 28, 2007 at the Clinton Global Initiative, it was revealed that Shakira received a commitment of $40 million from the Spanish government to help the victims of natural disasters. An additional $5 million was to be donated to four Latin American countries, to be spent on education and health. As part of the May 2007 concerts, her ALAS Foundation was able to solicit commitments of US$ 200 million from philanthropists Carlos Slim, Mexico’s richest man, and Howard Buffett, son of U.S. investment
