Eating Disorders

Ones of the worst diseases of the world. Mental disorders that have killed millions of people. Eating disorders are important diseases that have changed the world, thank to society. These disorders are mental diseases that affect directly the body of people. Eating disorders are characterized for the body dissatisfaction that people suffer when they have distort thoughts about their body.  These are chronic and progressive diseases that consist in a group of symptoms like an alteration or distortion of corporal self-image or an incredible fear to gain or lose weight. These disorders normally affect people in a serious way, causing their abnormal weight, and even their suicidal thoughts.

An eating disorder is a disease that causes serious disturbances in the daily diet of those who suffers it, like eating little or overeating. A person, who has an eating disorder, may have started eating little or big quantities of food, but in a moment the situation got out of control. A severe distress or excessive preoccupation for the weight also can be considered like an eating disorder. Eating disorders usually appear during adolescence, but can also occur during childhood or adulthood. The most common disorders are anorexia and bulimia. Eating disorders affect both men and women. These are characterized primarily by food intake beyond reasonable limits. Although eating disorders can start with worries about food and weight, they can become much more than that. People with eating disorders use food control to try to offset feelings and emotions that can be seen as unbearable. For some people change eating habits can start as a way to deal with painful emotions and to feel in control of their personal life, but in the end these behaviors can damage their physical and emotional health or their self-esteem.

There are a lot of things that cause eating disorders. Over time, people have developed an image of perfect people. A thin woman falls in love all men. A thin and muscular man falls in love all women. This is the image that TV shows, movies and magazines sell to people, who believe that that is a perfect body. Popular, successful, intelligent, admired, people have the perfect body. This image causes problems like low self-esteem, bullying, suicides, depression, anxiety, anger and loneliness. So, people, to resolve these problems, develop these disorders.

A common eating disorder is bulimia. Patients with bulimia eat frequently and an amazing amount of food they swallow without chewing in a short period of time, consuming calories high in sugars, carbohydrates and fats. This cycle generally is repeated at least several times a week or, in serious cases, several times a day. These episodes are usually followed by compensatory behaviors such as induced vomiting or misuse of laxatives, taking medication and diet, excessive exercise or fasting. Symptoms of bulimia include: swollen and sore throat by constant vomiting, swelling of the salivary glands, wear tooth enamel, sensitive teeth as a result of exposure to stomach acid reflux and other stomach problems. Another common disease is anorexia. In This disease, fear of gaining weight is always present. In most cases, these disorders are related to other psychiatric problems such as anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder and the abuse of alcohol or drugs. People suffering from anorexia are often too perfectionists with low self-esteem and criticism excessively himself and bodies. It is common that these people believe they are too obese, even if they are in the limit of malnutrition. They may try to achieve or maintain what they think is their ideal body weight. They may also exercise excessively. Anorexia affects about one in 100 girls and young women. Symptoms of anorexia include: several weight lose, feeling of being "fat" or overweight despite having considerable weight loss, loss of menstruation or refusal to eat.
