There are a lot of approaches towards ecotourism, it´s important to mention that many professionals have developed different definitions trough time, since this type of tourism is “new”. It is clear the controversy to define this concept because there are many subjects to cover to not let anything out of the theme.

As I was saying, as this has become a trend trough time, it is important to emphasize the significance of ecotourism, because it involves social, cultural, economic, and natural factors which affect each other in a certain way. All the definitions are very similar, but between all of them I have a favorite; A responsible nature travel experience, that contributes to the conservation of the ecosystem while respecting the integrity of host communities and, where possible, en- suring that activities are complementary, or at least compatible, with existing re- source-based uses present at the ecosystem.’ (Boyd & Butler, 1993: 13, 1996a: 386).

In my opinion, this definition it´s the one that includes all the concepts that mater, tourists should know the impacts of this type of travel, and in which ways they contribute to the preservation of distinct areas or the denigration of them. This means that the travelers need to adapt to the nature’s need, not the other way around, especially the wildlife sight- seeing, and entering protected areas.

It´s important to add the economic impacts in this case, which biodiversity conservation represents the fundamental goal of ecotourism, by using the natural attractive to create revenue and using part of that revenue to preserve the ecosystem.

The concern is that people may use these resources for self-financing, and by doing that abuse the natures resources and destroy the main goal of promoting and incenting ecotourism. This can not only affect the environment per say, but the remaining indigenous communities that remain till this day.

Consciousness it´s the key of this type of tourism, knowing that every action has an impact and it´s everyone’s choice to make it positive or negative.
