Istanbul is the cultural and financial center of Turkey. It is located in the northwestern part of Turkey. The city lies on two continents of Asia and Europe, united by the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn, through which flow the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara. The European side is the richest part of Istanbul while a short ferry ride away takes us to the side of Asia, where the poorest section of the city.
It is the variety that predominates in this town visitors: museums, churches, palaces, mosques and bazaars.
It has a population of 15000000 inhabitants. Most of the population is Muslim, there are also minorities of Christians and Jews.
Tourist places
The Grand Bazaar
Is the largest bazaar in the city and one of the biggest bazaars in the world.
Located in the center of the "old city", on the European side of Istanbul, it has more than 58 streets and 4,000 shops.
It offers services:
- Nursing.
- Post.
- Security.
- Bank branches of different banks.
Santa Sofía
Famous for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture, and it is said that "changed the history of architecture”. It was the cathedral with the largest area in the world for nearly a thousand years, until the work of Seville Cathedral was completed in 1520.
The Blue Mosque
Also known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque is one of the great mosques of Istanbul, Mehmet Ağa Sedefkar work. It is located opposite the church of Hagia Sophia, separated both by a garden.
Its magnificent exterior is in keeping with its sumptuous interior, in which a veritable symphony of beautiful blue Iznik tiles achieve a very special atmosphere.
Geography
Atatürk Arboretum
Hidden in the Woods Arboretum is this great park with numerous species, plants and wildlife of lakes tree. It is a beautiful place where you can relax or spend some family time. The main objective of the arboretum is to serve the faculty and students of the Forestry Department of Istanbul University.
Büyükada island
The island is characterized in that the traffic except for services, which makes you feel you've stepped back in time is prohibited. You can walk, bike or take to go on a horse or a donkey. It is characterized by its beautiful wooden houses, many of them in very good condition.
the Bosphorus
It is a strait that separates the European part of the Asian part of Turkey; divided into two parts the city of Istanbul and connects the Sea of Marmara. There are two bridges over the strait; the Boğaziçi bridge, 1074 meters long and the second bridge, Sultan Mehmed Fatih has a length of 1014 meters.
Things you should not do in Istanbul
- Care. If you are traveling alone and someone starts a pleasant conversation with you. You might invite to tea. But then tells you better go for a drink at another bar, appear some friends, in the end all and end up paying entangles your account.
