LONDON

London is the capital of the United Kingdom and of England, and has over seven million inhabitants in the greater London area, is the second most popular in Europe. Since London became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia, rose to become the center of the British Empire and now contributes 17% of the UK economy, the number four in the world. London has been one of the most important centers of world trade and policies for centuries. The City of London, is predominantly a financial center, in a area geographically so small. Although very heavy during the work week, the city of London is generally much quieter on the weekends.

Architecture

Tower Bridge

The Tower Bridge, named after its two impressive towers, is one of the best known landmarks in London. This Victorian Bridge is now over 100 years. Designed by Wolfe Barry and Horace Jones and completed in 1894, the center of the bridge can be raised to allow large ships of the sea pass the Tower Bridge. I used to be raised about 50 times for day, but today only stands 4 or 5 times to week.

Design Museum

Design Museum. Opened in 1989, the Design Museum was the first museum in the world dedicated to the design of mass-produced objects. The museum was founded by Sir Terence Conran, who installed the Boilerhouse Project Design in Victorian and Albert Museum. The elegant facade of the building has lovely views from the River Thames and Tower Bridge.

Big ben

Known as Big Ben, the famous clock of the Houses of Parliament has become one of the most famous images of London, and one of the main symbols of the city. The tower, built in 1858 together to the Palace of Westminster, is a peculiar building 106 meters high built in a Gothic style houses four huge clocks located on their faces.

The climate in London

The climate in London is mild, not too hot in summer nor too cold in winter, although quite cooler than in Spain. In summer, for example, temperatures in London tend not to rise above 33 degrees, with an average of between 20 and 25 degrees, and in winter, the average is usually around five or six degrees. However, the humid climate makes something intensify the wind chill.

Tourism in London

London is a popular centre for tourism, one of its prime industries, employing the equivalent of 350,000 full-time workers in 2003, while annual expenditure by tourists is around £15 billion. London attracts over 14 million international visitors per year, making it Europe's most visited city. London attracts 27 million overnight-stay visitors every year.
