Jose Salvador Alvarenga

Jose Salvador Alvarenga nació en Garita Palmera un pueblo costero muy pequeño al suroeste de San salvador. Se dedico a la pesca desde temprana edad y posteriormente se casó y tuvo una hija sin embargo al poco tiempo estuvo involucrado en una pelea de bar por lo cual tuvo que irse de Garitas Palmeras y llegó a un pueblo pequeño en México, Costa Azul. Ahí siguió trabajando de pescador, donde empezó como asistente de pescador hasta convertirse en “tiburonero”. A Salvador le gustaba entrar mar adentro porque le gustaba la adrenalina a la hora de pescar. Una mañana de noviembre del 2012 Salvador se alistó ropa, cobijas, navegador, radio, teléfono cigarros y comida para ir a pescar con su compañero el “Rey Perez”.  Salvador era el capitán de la lancha y había llevado años pescando con su compañero. Aquel día ellos navegaron 6 horas hasta el lugar donde sabían que la pesca era buena, en la madrugada ambos decidieron regresar a la costa para reaprovisionarse, y “Rey Pérez” le dijo que tenía que firmar unos papeles pero que volvería para salir de nuevo, sin embargo, no regresó. Debido a eso Salvador zarpó junto a un joven de 22 años, Ezequiel Cordoba, quien solo era un conocido. Willie, el dueño de las lanchas les advirtió que la tormenta estaba cerca y debían tener mucho cuidado. Salvador y Ezequiel atraparon muchos peces, aunque Ezequiel no la estaba pasando tan bien debido a que no tenía tanta experiencia como Salvador. Debido a las fuertes tormentas intentaron regresar a la costa y para esto debieron tirar toda la pesca para no hundirse, pero por el movimiento de las olas al GPS le cayó agua y dejo de funcionar y por último los motores se apagaron. Salvador llamó a Willie con la radio que aún funcionaba para pedir ayuda, cuando de repente les cayó una ola y se llevó todo lo que tenían, incluso casi se lleva Ezequiel. Después de una semana la tormenta acabó sin embargo no tenían comida, ni agua y con el pasar de los días empezaron a sentir los efectos. Salvador empezó a pescar con las manos, pero no eran suficientes. Con el pasar de los días vieron un avión y un barco, pero estos no los vieron. Una noche una tortuga chocó con la lancha, la cual no desaprovecharon, aunque al inicio Ezequiel no quería comérsela. Dos semanas después de quedarse sin motores llovió y juntaron toda el agua que pudieron, después de siete días volvió a llover debido a esto racionaban el agua y la comida para que durara más tiempo. Para Ezequiel la situación era muy difícil, hasta que un día tocó fondo pues a su dieta le habían agregado pájaros, y uno de los que se comió estaba envenenado, lo cual causó que Ezequiel perdiera el apetito. La mañana del 15 de marzo del 2013, luego de 118 días en el mar Ezequiel falleció.

Jose Salvador Alvarenga was born in Garita Palmera, a very small coastal town, southwest of San Salvador. He was dedicated to fishing from an early age and he later married and had a daughter. However, he had involving in a bar fight, before he left Garitas Palmeras and arrived in a small town in Mexico, Costa Azul. There he had continued working as a fisherman, where he started as a fisherman's assistant until he became a "shark." Salvador liked to enter the sea because he liked the adrenaline when fishing there, he liked take risks. One morning in November 2012 Salvador packed clothes, blankets, a radar, ropes, radio, telephone, cigars and food to go fishing with his partner the "King Perez". Salvador was the captain of the boat and had spent years fishing with his partner. That day they sailed 6 hours to the place where they knew fishing was good, in the early morning they both decided to return to the coast to replenish, and "Rey Perez" told him that he had to sign some papers, but he would come back to leave again, however, he did not return. Because of that, Salvador set sail with a 22-year-old boy, Ezequiel Cordoba, who was only an acquaintance. Willie, the owner of the boats warned them that the storm was close, and they should be very careful. Salvador and Ezequiel caught many fish, although Ezequiel was not having such a good time because he did not have as much experience as Salvador. Due to the strong storms they tried to return to the coast and for this they had to throw all the fishing so as not to sink, but by the movement of the waves the water arrived at the GPS and stopped working and finally the engines went out, so they got into a trouble. Salvador called Willie with the radio that was still working for help, when suddenly a wave fell and it took everything they had, even Ezekiel almost took. After a week, the storm ended however they had no food, no water and with the passing of days they began to feel the effects. Salvador started fishing with his hands, but they were not enough. As the days passed, they saw an airplane and a ship, but they did not see them. One night a turtle collided with the boat, which they did not waste, although at first Ezequiel did not want to eat it. Two weeks after running out of engines, it rained and gathered as much water as they could, after seven days it rained again because of this they rationed water and food to last longer. For Ezequiel the situation was very difficult, until one day he hit bottom, because his diet had added birds, and one of those who ate was poisoned, which caused Ezekiel to lose his appetite. On the morning of March 15, 2013, after 118 days at sea, Ezequiel passed away.
