Domestic violence is a term used to refer to "the violence on the ground of family or assimilated coexistence, by one member against another, against any of the others or against them all"

1. - Comprises all those violent acts, from the use of physical force, to bullying, harassment or intimidation, occurring within a home and perpetrated by at least one family member against another familiar.

2. - The term includes a wide variety of phenomena, among which are some components of violence against women, violence against men, child abuse, or parents of both sexes.

Family violence includes all violence by one or more family members against one or more other family members. Violence against children, violence against women and violence against dependents and the elderly are the most frequent violence in the context of the family. Not always the strongest physically or economically within the family, and are sometimes psychological reasons (see Stockholm syndrome) that prevent the victim defend it operates. Studies found that in homes where there is abuse or psychological violence or any other violence, children are 15 times more likely to report some form of abuse as adults.

Psychological violence is a form of aggression in which most of the countries affected will complain and rarely take action regarding such violence, since in this case the lack of legal options complaint bind and protection against this form of violence. The marks of violence are easier to hide if emotional as women do not accept abuse in a "passive"; according to studies that most abused women did not accept it and resisted it. These defensive actions caused psychological violence look like a mutual aggression and some institutions cataloged as a couple conflict. However, studies conducted in Honduras just two of the women interviewed agreed that they were emotionally assaulted before being physically abused. Thanks to various public awareness campaigns and state programs, women had more clarity about who experienced psychological aggression.
