Precedes the beginning of Lent , a period of time in which Christians are not allowed to eat meat, it is used to eat all the meat can not be eaten in Lent to prevent rot. In the first celebrations ox walked through the villages to remember abstaining to meat you would have to perform in the season of Lent, when the United States was settled by European immigrants . French-Canadian explorers who had been traveling the Mississippi River. The crew knew the date and longed to celebrate Mardi Gras, as their compatriots were doing in France. The biggest festival in this country is held in New Orleans on Mardi Gras.

Clothes and costumes are usually bright and colorful sequins and feathers are used , the parades are an important part of the celebration, two weeks before Mardi Gras , make a journal where you can see parade floats with costumed members of kings , princesses, gods , devils, mythological characters and present . The most colorful parades take place the last five days in which the arrival of many tourists are expected.

In 1857 , a secret society that "The Mystick Krewe of Comus " was called was formed. The Krewes are groups of people who met in secret to plan your presentation at the Mardi Gras. It also kept secret the identity of the participants, who hid behind masks and costumes and was never revealed. One goal of the meeting was to elect the person who would represent the Comus .

The Association Rex was the third of the great organizations of this carnival . Rex first appeared in 1872. The organizers of the floats Rex had chosen as the theme " meaning of the colors ." So those colors persisted over time as a symbol of Carnival in New Orleans.
