Essay:

For centuries, paintings, sculpture, ballet , music and other artistic disciplines have amazed the world. Artists are central to cultural, political and social discourses in the world. They are here not only to inspire us, but to provoke us as well. Artists have a responsibility to use their works as a weapon to the status and to break these cultural and social barriers. Each one uses different types of materials or designs to create art. In this case, Rafael Rivera Rosa, a famous puertorican artist. He uses abstract art to express his emotions, without any structure whatsoever. Even though people might not understand the artist intention of the paintings, they can still see them in their own perspective and in art that is beauty. How can something that represents nothing in particular be so eye-catching to look at and be called art?

Our individual idea of beauty can be much different than anyone else's. Therefore by art we can say that it is any creation, whether if it would be based in a visual, auditory, literary, or any other field. Art, has to involve an interactive factor, by any living or non living being, during or before its viewing by an audience, no matter the size of the audience, whether the reaction is big or small, negative or positive. The only way  it wouldn’t be considered art, is if it doesn’t have a reaction from anyone, not emotional nor no opinion. Art allows us to manifest and express many feelings and ideas that can sometimes be hidden.

The abstract art it does not longer represent men, landscapes, houses nor flowers, but simply color schemes that attempt to express the inner necessity is shown. It has no intention on representing  beings or concrete objects; however, only elements of shape, color, structure or proportion. One of the main features of abstract painting is the use of a language without form and freedom. There is two types of abstract painting the pure abstract and partial abstract. In pure abstract there is no recognizable figurative traces, faces or words, just like Rafael Rivera Rosa. Whoever in partial abstract, the painting retains parts of figurative shapes.

Abstract art has the advantage that the artist has absolute freedom to create, because it does not have to follow any rules, and establish what to do and how to do it. This type of art is meant to grab your attention and pull an emotional response right from within you. In most circumstances, is filled with colors of all sorts that are meant to turn heads. This characteristic, along with others such as the paintings texture and other elements, are what make this form of art one of the most popular styles collected today. It shows a different side of the artist, representing emotions that come from inside using different colors and textures; different shapes and forms. Abstract Art, allows artists to let their creativity go free without having to worry about straight lines or perfect shapes. Their creativity allows them to take nothing and turn it into something.

Rafael Rivera Rosa uses intense color ranges that radiate happiness or gray-scale to reflect sadness or depression. He presented a selection of abstract paintings, of his last ten years of production, at the Museum of Art in Bayamón. These paintings proclaim an affirmation of law. Projecting our expression to the world, as Rosa Rivera has been a defender of the many struggles aesthetic and justice, in its various artistic events, and here requires pure luxury, from the phosphorescent a euphoric tropical and sensual. He exposed his recent collection called "Vertices de la Memoria" or vertices of the memory were all of the paintings were abstract. His expressionist work reflects a great energy that refers to a deep sense of freedom and lyricism though his recent figurative work. His narrative is reflexive, and has imaginary mythological characters that seem to allude to concerns of social and political.
