Route 66 is one of the essential icons of America, both for Americans and for people abroad. It represents a multitude of ideas: freedom, migration west, and the loneliness of the American heartland. In my journey between Chicago and Los Angeles I want to visit historical sites and inspiring known from coast to coast. This trip will be incredible.

Route 66 passes through every type of Southern California landscape. I would like to visit the beautiful beaches of Santa Monica, through the citrus-rich inland valleys, over mountains and across the demanding Mojave Desert. In Arizona the desert along the Rios Colorado and desiccated Cross passing through towns and Petrified Forest National Park. Oklahoma was Indian Territory, last refuge of Kiowa, Apache, Comanche, and other tribes. The shortest but perhaps best-signed stretch of Route is one of my plans to visit, because the big power plant, today this plant is the Kansas Route 66 Association. Missouri also holds one of the greatest tourist attractions of the old Route 66, Meramec Caverns, and an extensive set of limestone caves offering the most over-the-top underground tour you can take. In Illinois the endless fields of corn and the state capital Springfield. These places are on my list to visit someday.

Along Route 66 there are many inspiring places. In Arizona across the state the mighty Grand Canyon one of the true wonders of the natural world. Two hundred miles long, a mile deep, the Grand Canyon defies description, and if you’re anywhere nearby you owe it to yourself to stop for a look. You could spend a lifetime here and still not get to know it all, but even if you have only half a day be sure to leave the rim and hike down into the canyon to get a real sense of its awesome scale. Across Texas the many of the ghostly towns like McLean and the sole city, Amarillo. At the heart of the Llano Estacado, midway across the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo is a busy big city that retains its cowboy roots. Center of the local ranching industry that handles some two million head of cattle each year (25 percent of the national total), Amarillo is also one of the few places on earth where helium has been found; an estimated 90 percent of the world’s supply once came from here. Whether you are motivated by an interest in its history, feel a nostalgic yearning for the good old days the route has come to represent, or simply want to experience firsthand the amazing diversity of people and landscapes that line its path.

Finally we can say that Route 66 passes through a marvelous cross-section of American scenes, from the golden sands and sunshine of Los Angeles, past the Grand Canyon and the Native American communities of the desert southwest, to the gritty streets of St. Louis and Chicago. The Route 66 offers an unforgettable journey into America
