ABSTRACT

Argentina is characterized by historically being a nation with a strong migratory imprint. International and regional mobility towards our country has been a constant, leaving its mark on social, political, economic and cultural life. Three stages are usually distinguished: early migrations, from the 18th century to 1880, mass displacement, from 1881 to the First World War, and contemporary ones, from the end of the First World War onwards.

Intra-regional migration, for its part, is also a characteristic deeply rooted in the continent: territorial proximity between countries, common language facility, similar socio-political histories, existence of ethnic ties and common territoriality prior to the colonial era have made the borders between the countries of the region more permeable and that migration between countries is a real and concrete option.

Thus, the act of migrating, of crossing a border, constitutes an event where countless social factors intersect. When a person crosses an international border, they "become" a "migrant" at the same time that they are constructed in their legal recognition and legal and political treatment. In turn, these people, now "migrants", are constructed socially, symbolically and culturally, through social representations that circulate and reproduce and tend, in many cases, to stigmatize, discriminate or highlight their figure.

THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE

Through the analysis of the historical background and the discussion about the immigration issue, this text will go through the most relevant points of the social, economic, political and cultural development in our country, the trajectories, stages and composition, allows reviewing the images and stories, typical of the common sense and present in the migration.

The search for a better life for a person and their family, income disparities between

the different regions. The labor and migration policies of the countries of origin and destination. The social and political conflicts that drive cross-border migration.
