What challenges might a radically hands-off leader face? How could those challenges be addressed?

A hands-off leader who does not have long-term plans for his organization can face many challenges. A business is a changing environment where the employees need to have a guide to follow in order to complete their goals and objectives. If the employees do not have previous experience or the necessary information to complete their tasks, this would not be completed or they could be done incorrectly. Leaving the responsibilities in the hands of the employees can get to the point where it could demotivate them. A leader cannot assume that an employee will always be self-motivated. Not having guidance from a leader can create issues and lack of motivation among the subordinates. The objectives and goals of the organization can take more time to be completed. Having too much freedom could reach a level of noncompliance or insubordination. Additionally, not having a dress code can create an informal atmosphere in the work area. To handle these challenges Semler can be a participative leader and engage more with his employees. There are multiple ways in which the challenges can be taken care of in a flexible manner that suits the organization depending on the situation. Semler could also implement basic norms and rules to improve the functioning of the organization and have more control over the assignment of tasks to each employee based on their qualities.

How could future leaders be identified in this organization? Would leadership training be important in this organization? Discuss.

Future leaders could be identified as having a positive attitude and being charismatic. This type of leader has a goal and a personal commitment to that goal. They could be described as unconventional, who have confidence and trust in themselves and can be recognized as agents of radical changes. They should not believe that this model of leadership will be in their favor all the time and for this reason receiving leadership training could be helpful so they can keep in mind that there is no need to be so liberal in certain circumstances. Future leaders could adjust the model to make it more compatible with the culture.

Other business could take advantage of some of Ricardo Semler's approach to leadership:

• Offering more freedom to the employees without having to compromise the performance.
