Ida Scudder

Biography

Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder (December 9, 1870 – May 24, 1960) was a third-generation American medical missionary in India of the Reformed Church in America. She dedicated her life to the plight of Indian women and the fight against bubonic plague, cholera and leprosy. In 1918, she started one of Asia's foremost teaching hospitals, the Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore, India.

He graduated from Cornell Medical College, New York in 1899 as part of the first class in that school that accepts women as medical students. Then he went back to India, fortified with a $ 10,000 grant from a lord Schell, a banker from Manhattan, in memory of his wife. With the money, he started a small medical clinic and a clinic for women in Vellore, 75 miles from Madras.

At the time that Ida scudder realized the responsibility she had to perform in India, she asked God to give her the mission in life and allow her to help other women.

After that Ida Scudder entered the university medical school to become a great doctor. After a lifetime of nearly sixty years, Dr. Ida Scudder embodied the truth and compassion that are in Christ. She founded a medical school, and a prestigious hospital, provided health care that saved the lives of many peasants and left a beautiful legacy that continues to benefit millions of people each year and delivering health and hope.

Her philosophy

Ida Scudder una mujer normal. Aunque verdaderamente perteneció al seno de una familia misionera muy prestigiosa, 4 generaciones seguidas de 42 misioneros médicos sirviendo en la India. Su padre como su abuelo siendo médicos trabajaron voluntariamente en India. Pero esta joven odiaba los días de calor de India, no quiero a las personas de India, ella tenía una buena imagen de la buena labor voluntaria de su padre, aunque para ella esta responsabilidad era una carga y aburrida. Por lo cual ella decidió vivir sola en los Estados unidos e ir a la Universidad.

Después de algún tiempo por la enfermedad de su madre Ida volvió a la India, pero en su visita a India, de repente llegaron 3 personas buscando a la madre de Ida, esta escena seria la escena que cambiaria completamente la dirección de su vida. Esta 3 personas que llegaron vinieron pidiendo socorro por que la esposa de uno de ellos estaba por dar a luz pero tanto la madre como el niño corrían peligro. Pero la madre de Ida se encontraba en el hospital en cama. Es que en India usan mujeres parteras, no permiten a los hombres ser parteros, al darse cuenta las tres personas de la situación de la madre de Ida, se desanimaron y volvieron a la casa.
