The first Tuesday of February seemed to be a normal day; I woke up, as usually in a hurry and didn’t have time to look in the mirror. I run to the school bus stop but it was too late, so I had to go back to my apartment and tell my parents they needed to take me to school. When I arrived to the building some friends told me my eyes were red but I thought they were exaggerating because they didn’t hurt or scratch. During recess I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror and they were really red. However, without contact lenses I cant see anything. I see everything distorted and I cant even recognize the faces of people when they are near me I am almost blind; so I decided to hide my eyes from my parents so they wont take my contact lens from me. Later I figured out, the hard way, that this was never a good idea. Two days passed and my eyes were now completely red, there was no white part. Eventually my parents figured out something were not right and they panic, the first time me mom saw me she almost had a heart attack and fainted. The next morning I went to a clinic for eyes to emergencies place. The doctor told me to stop using contact lens for a week and buy two eye drops and use them, and that they should make me feel better. After a week my eyes returned to being white and everything seemed to be perfect. However the joy didn’t lasted the same day I started using contact lens again my eyes turned red again. I came back to the doctor and said the problem was a over infection due to the lens liquid or the case in which I kept them. When I came home I had to throw everything related to contact lens to the trash can, I had to change my towels, clean my bag, and disinfect all my room. My eyes recover for about 4 days, but at the fifth day my eyes returned to be red and they were swollen. I came back to the clinic and the doctor didn’t knew what else to do, he consulted to three other doctors of the clinic and they said it was probably an allergy infected, so I needed to stop using contact lens and he gave me other eye drops. A usual the drops worked for a while for they eventually stopped working. I was desperate, and tired. My mom is a doctor so she called some colleagues to see if any of them could help me, but at that exact moment there was an ophthalmologists congress out of the city so no one could see me. I had to came back to the clinic and after repeating to everyone that I had already stopped using contact lens like for three weeks and I disinfected all my house, the doctors didn’t knew what else to do. It became really hard for me because now they hurt, light made the pain worst, it was almost impossible to use the computer, and although I used glasses I couldn’t see the board. Besides I had to use like a million eye drops everyday and at any time. People commented things like; “Why are you crying?” or “Your eyes are really red!” or “Go to the doctor!” or “Do they hurt” or “Do something, Sofi”.
