Connection between the story and the title of coherence

Introduction:

• James Ward Byrkit comes from a background of theatre and music, mixed with an obsession with graphic arts.
•  James has been concocting strange tales that weave fantasy elements with realistically-toned storytelling. Coherence is his first directed feature film.

Body:

• James wanted to start with his own project but he was run out of money. He realized that he had to work with whatever he could afford. So that, a camera using shot sizes like close-up reaction shot , medium shot, full shot in different moments of the film, some friends who could act and a living room  were enough to start the film. Then all the ideas and the cosmic significance that James had, finally came out.
• James made an excellent use of lightening such as High-key light and Low-key light. He shot in his living room for over 5 nights consequently and the dialogues were fully improvised, how? James gave the actors individual notes and even emailed the actors a few set of pages with dialogs that gave them a bit of back story and their characters motivation for that night creating the illusion of being there at the moment of watch the film.
• Thanks to the director and the characters, the viewer start a travel trough the film, but there is one thing left and that is, why coherence as the title?

Conclusion:

• At the moment of thinking about a title for the film, the viewer should think that coherence is when all of its parts fit together well. But in fact James said that for him coherence means the incoherence that we watch in the film and how the main character Emily tries to find a reality where she fits well.
