ABSTRACT :( summary of the monograph)

The next researching is about Samuel Johnson’s life who was one of the most important writer and critic in the classicism time. Samuel Johnson's life covers many points, but it's a story about overcoming considerable adversity, to ultimately become one of the best known men of his age.

At the beginning of his life was really hard because he got many obstacles in his life, especially when he started his studies at the Oxford University because of the lack of money but as the majority of the genius he didn’t give up at all. He is well-known as “Dr. Johnson”, he made lasting contributions to English literature as a poet, essayist, moralist, novelist, literary critic, biographer, editor and lexicographer. Johnson was a devout Anglican and political conservative, and has been described as "arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history". He is also the subject of "the most famous single work of biographical art in the whole of literature": James Boswell's Life of Samuel Johnson.

The most important work was his’ Dictionary of the English language’ which caused him popularity and success; until his completion of the Oxford English Dictionary, 150 years later, Johnson's was viewed as the pre-eminent British dictionary. In the years following his death, Johnson began to be recognized as having had a lasting effect on literary criticism, and even as the only great critic of English literature.

INTRODUCTION

This essay has been designed to develop and discover the life,works and passion of Samuel Johnson considered one of the most famous literary figures of the 18th century.

The contains of this monograph has approximately six sections where the first topic is about how the classicism time started,what were its characteristics and main writers,the second topic is about Samuel Johnson ‘s life and his works, the third topic is about of one of his master piece which was analized, the fourth topic is about researching of publisher’ catalogues and what they offer to the students ,the fifth topic is about my current ELT situation and finally the sixth topic is an information about my past, present and future application of literature in my ELT.

To conclude, I hope al the information gotten ,will be useful to clarify some doubts or wrong ideas about Samuel Johnson and one of his masterpiece. Without any doubt Dr. Johnson is considered The leader of the London literary world.

1.1THE CLASSICITS

Classicism is a specific genre of philosophy, expressing itself in literature, architecture, art, and music, which has Ancient Greek and Roman sources and an emphasis on society. This period sought the revival of classical art forms, including Greek drama and music. Opera, in its modern European form, had its roots in attempts to recreate the combination of singing and dancing with theatre and these are its main characteristics of that period:

• During this period the classism developed the history of democracy, the literature and the art of Greece and Rome.

• The beginning of the newspapers, novel, and magazines was crucial because of the new ideas preceded for those times.

• American colonies were badly guided by the king George III and his ministers but the United States was established as a independent nation.

• The aristocracy and the birh of the “newly rich” of he middle class was a period of great fortunes but just few people were privileged.

• The dangers on the streets were notable but also the brutality of the punishment was practiced in criminals.

• People’ behaviors were respectful and elegant. The artists such as painters and musicians were encharged to create new art
