Intensificadores:

¿Para qué se utiliza?

Un intensificador se utiliza para dar énfasis al significado de las palabras que le siguen. Cambian la fuerza (o graduación) de la palabra o del adjetivo. Los intensificadores más frecuentes son very, quite, too, so, such y enough

¿Cómo y cuándo se utilizan?

Very se utiliza delante de la mayor parte de los adjetivos y de los adverbios y delante de few y little. No puede usarse ante adjetivos o adverbios comparativos. En este caso se debe usar much.

Quite tiene dos significados dependiendo del adjetivo que lleve detrás. Si el adjetivo tiene grados, es decir que describe una cualidad con distinta graduación (bueno, mejor) entonces significa bastante. Puede ir delante de un adjetivo + nombre. Si el nombre es singular y va precedido de un artículo, quite se coloca delante del artículo. También  puede ir delante de a few, a little, y a lot of.

Too va delante de un adjetivo o adverbio. Suele tener el sentido de "más que suficiente" o "más de lo necesario". Puede ir delante también de much, many, few y little.

So se usa ante adjetivos que no van seguidos por nombres. Se usa también ante adverbios y ante much o many que sí pueden ir seguidos de nombres.

Such se usa ante un nombre o ante un nombre + adjetivo. Cuando el nombre es singular y va precedido por un artículo, such se coloca delante del artículo.

Enough  Se utiliza siempre delante de los adjetivos o adverbios que modifica. Luego del adjetivo, puede agregarse "to" más un verbo. Si se usa con sustantivos, significa "demasiado/a/os/as" y va siempre seguido de many much, dependiendo del tipo de sustantivo contable o incontable.

Ejemplos:

* Very

-In my opinion, this initiative is very important and timely

-The relationship between them and their prey is very complex.

-The solution this type of issue is very simple

-This drink is very delicious

-The movie is very boring

-Spiderman costume is very amazing

-The wolf is very fast

-The English class turned out to be very easy

-This may be very frustrating and destructive for a relationship.

-You are a very important person to me

* Quite

-The answer is quite simple one person at a time

- My aunt lives in Scotland. She says it's quite nice.

-Because my father is making things quite difficult for me.

-As a teacher, he can read and write quite well.

-This car will not be pretty, but is quite comfortable.

-For some reason it seems quite attached to you

-The preparation of this salsa is quite simple

-Sometimes I feel quite alone in the world.

-It's quite easy and can be a great project.

-The sofa is quite comfortable and should not be left alone

*Too:

-You work very hard and he do too.

-She likes to sit in the sun and we do too

*Such:

- This planet has not experienced an earthquake since eighty-seven

- He is a lawyer and must be treated as such.

- I've never seen such love in a pair of eyes.

- Maybe a hospital is not such a bad idea.

- Only the proletariat is capable of undertaking such a task.

*Enough:

- The apartment is nice with enough space for 7 people.

- At least you have enough material to write your thesis.
