Read and understand the next situation:
Your town council has set up a meeting to decide whether to apply for Fairtrade status. Choose one rol. Prepare a short paragraph of your reasons for supporting or opposing the town´s Fairtrade application.
Choose one of the role cards on pages (170-171), be empathic and make the speech.
Results:
Other arguments for and against will be obtained in this Agreement, in reality it is an economic, social and political reform. Has escaped discussion and public opinion, advertising saturate the media with information that highlights about the supposed benefits of this agreement. Opponents of these terms may only use small open space for discussion.
As president of the union of local farmers, I communicate to you to present our reasons for this agreement.
We represents unequal treatment before the law, as many terms will not let them clear, fair trade products we snatch with lots of development for its capital, we can’t allow local produce to be forgotten, which is why we request that the promotion of Fairtrade products will be at the expense of locally grown produce.
Conclusion:
The local agricultural industry could suffer as a result of this agreement. Our organization could only support the Fairtrade initiative if it also promotes local products, for the economy of our community.
