Omar Hassan Ahmad Al-Bashir

Omar Al-Bashir, currently with the title as President of Sudan, was born on January 1st, 1944. Omar was born in the capital of Hosh Bannaga, Khartoum. Omar has been married twice, once to his cousin Fatima Khalid and to a woman named, Widad Babiker Omer, he is a polygyny. Widad was once married to her former husband Ibrahim Shamsaddin and had several children together. Ibrahim Shamsaddin was killed while serving in the Revolutionary Command Council for National Salvation and died in a helicopter crash. Omar has no children of his own though.

When Omar had turned sixteen in age, he had started serving the Sudanese Army in 1960. He studied at the Egyptian Military Academy in Cairo and also studied in the Sudan Military Academy in Khartoum in 1966. Both in which he graduated from. With having a high degree, he arose to being a paratroop officer. Later he had served in the Egyptian Army during the war in 1973, Yom Kippur. The Yom Kippur War was fighting against Israel. Omar had later been sent to the United Arab Emirates in 1975 serving as the Sudanese military attaché. Later when he had returned home, Omar was made a garrison commander and later was downgraded back to a paratroop officer when he became commander of an armored parachute brigade.

On the 16th of October1993, Omar had finally been elected as President of his country after being disbanded of the army. He works between the Legislative and Executive powers of the council. He had passed a law of replacing the old money currency, Sudanese Pound, to Sudanese Dinar. This had increased the currency dramatically raising it to ninety percent. In the year 1998, Omar and the Presidential Committee had put a new constitution into effect, allowing limited political associations in opposition to Omar’s National Congress Party.

Omar had been accused of many charges. On July 14th, 2008, the prosecutor of the International Court of Criminals, Luis Moreno Ocampo, alleged that Omar had been guilty of individual criminal responsibility for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. In which the war crimes had been committed since 203 in Darfur. Omar was also accused of trying to destroy three main ethnic groups, the Fur, Masalit, and Zaghawa, with a campaign of murder, rape, and deportation. An arrest warrant was later issued for Omar on March 4th, 2009.
