Critical Analysis

USE OF CONTROL CHARTS TO MONITOR STUDENT EVALUATIONS OF COLLEGE INSTRUCTORS

The charts of control are tools that can be used for the detection of variations out of the usual behavior of one variable. This method are normally used in industrial process to monitor the performance of the machines or the operator, although in can be applied to other models that accomplish the necessity of have a limitated variability.

In the article analyzed, it can be seen the application of this method of use of control charts to monitor student evaluation of college instructor, counting on that the professors developing raise over the inferior limit of specifications or the minimum developing accepted. To obtain this data it was necessary to make an examination for the students, this examination contained questions about the work of the teachers.

Based in the results obtained from the examinations, it can determined when the opinion of an students highly differs from the standard, by this way the teacher will be able to know which one are the aspects that could be improved to gain a better developing.

This analysis also allows the college or the educational institution to take decisions to improve the quality of the service, if the developing of the teacher don’t reach the level of acceptance, the institution could decide between train the teacher, hire a more qualified person or examined the abilities of the teacher an give him the opportunity to take another function in the organization.

In the research showed in the article, the students make an evaluation of the instructor as highly qualified, even some of the califications surpass what it was expected. About all this it can be conclude that the teacher it’s qualified, because in the results of the examination he didn’t obtain low calification, in other words there wasn’t any data below the inferior limit.
