Alarming disadvantages of artificial organs

Can you imagine a method that ensures longer life? Today some scientists and medical experts claim to have the solution for many patients. Since the numbers of organ donors are alarming because of their small numbers, medicine has discovered new possibilities for these cases. It is artificial organs replacement. A process in which synthetic devices replace injured or weakened body parts and functions. The advantages of this treatment appear to be many and very encouraging. But besides all the advantages of artificial organs, the few disadvantages are more shocking.

First, most of the time, the organs cannot function properly. The human body has a system of protection. Is here when patients face the problem of hyperacute rejection, which is the result of the body’s immune system protecting itself against foreign objects. Here scientists will provide the patient immunosuppressants for the body to accept the organ with fewer difficulties. But immunosuppressants weaken the immune system of the patient, thus increasing the risk of getting a virus. After the body accepts the organ seems to be no problems, but sometimes the body rejects the organ after weeks or months without any explanation. Most of the creation of these artificial organs has been incomplete due to the complexity of the natural organs. For scientists it is very difficult to get these organs carry out all the functions performed by a natural organ. For example in the case of artificial kidney it is only used to restore a process, or for short term.

Second, the creation of the artificial organs is too expensive. Due to the complexity of the human organs, the creation of these organs is very expensive. The equipment needed for its creation is too much. Building these organs requires the collaborative work between engineers, biologists and clinical doctors. Is one of the treatments that more experimentation involved due to its magnitude in human life. The cost of their creation is of thousands and thousands of dollars and does not yet completely functioning.

Third, not all the people have the access for these treatments. Who will receive these brilliant inventions? Obviously not all of the patients will get transplants, so selection criteria must be established. As I mentioned in the previous paragraph its creation costs is extremely high, so just imagine the cost to be sold. The high prices of artificial organs and their implantation will eliminate some candidates. Unfortunately this is not fair. The rich in essence can buy life, whereas the poor are abandoned to die. In other cases, for example artificial heart, not all patients have a body size that allows the device to be implanted into the chest cavity making small persons unable to receive the treatment. Must be chosen patients who are psychologically adapted to live with
