Dear students

Welcome to the Differential calculus course.  This document outlines all the essential information about the differential calculus course. It lists the topics you will study, as well as the due dates of any coursework including tests, quizzes, or exams.

1. General objective

The student will determine the rate of change and the optimal solution in problems in their environment, through differential calculus to contribute to decision making in the efficient management of resources.

2. Course description

The course consists of three learning units. The first unit introduces the functions, limits, and continuity concept, how they are calculated and the graphic and analytic representation of them. In the second unit, it is introduced the concept of derivatives as rate of changes, the derivative as functions and differentiation formulas, and some examples of real-life use of derivatives are made Unit three deals with optimization, applications of differentiation, and maximum and minimum values are demonstrated.  Throughout the course, the student will learn in a general way the implication of differential calculus in bioprocesses and biotechnology.

3. General competencies

Formulate the mathematical approach by identifying the variables to be analyzed and applying mathematical principles and theories, as well as logical-mathematical reasoning to describe the problem. Solve the problem through the application of mathematical principles, methods and tools, as well as the interpretation of results to contribute to decision making.
