1. - Which philosopher I believe is closest to my philosophy of life and why do I believe this to be the case?

I think Socrates is the philosopher that better suits my philosophy of life because he believes that one should act to do “good” in order to fulfill one’s essence, but he does not refer as “good” to something that has already been established as right or that it is considered right by everybody as it applies differently to each person, but rather than something we considered right and will let us achieve happiness. Also he believed that one should examine one’s self in order to determine what is the purpose of one’s life, therefore I believe that I am the only one that can determine what is good or not, what makes me happy and what does not. For me, the concept of “good” comes from a personal point of view and it is from that personal point of view that one can choose how to act considering what is the accomplishment one wants to have.

2. - Why have I not chose other philosophers?

Because they do not fulfill my whole philosophy even if I agree in certain parts. For example, I agree with Plato that reason should rule over emotions and that one has the responsibility to do whatever it takes to accomplish one’s desires but contrary to Socrates, he believes that Eudemonia can only be achieved in the World of Ideas. Sartre believes that humans are existentialist like me but he is a radical atheist which I cannot accept because even though I do not know if God exist I accept the possibility of its existence. Hobbes’ social contract theory states that one should submit to the authority of an absolute power as he believes that humans are selfish and destructive and in order to maintain order one should have limits; I believe it is true because without some boundaries everyone would do whatever they wanted and it would be chaotic but I think he exaggerates because he proposes an absolute power and takes part of one’s individual freedom which I do not accept because even we can be destructive and selfish we can also be supporting and cooperative.

3. - Specific example of how Plato’s theory the Tripartite Soul has applied to me and how I defeated the shadows.

My parents have been separated since I was three years old and I have lived with my mother ever since. When I was little I used to have a good perception of my father, mainly because I missed him (emotional part) but as I grew older I noticed many things I dislike about him because they have affected his life and it seems that he does not notice it (rational part). In some things I am like him and before I did not notice it, but when I did I knew I did not want to make the same mistakes as him and therefore I tried to overcome this similarities, to improve and become a better person. It is because of the many things he does that I hate that I changed my perception of life, what matters and the way I want to live mine. Contrary to my mother, my father is not analytic or reasonable, his actions are driven by impulses or reactions, and he has no established objectives. The shadows I defeated, along with the way I perceived my father, are the way I thought someone should live and how one should act in order to reach one’s objectives.

4. - In consequence, is my philosophy perspective how I live my life?

I think most of the times I do, I do not try to fit in, nor I do things others expect me to do just to gain their sympathy. Sometimes I can be persuade to change my mind about something or even persuade to do something I do not want to do, but it is because of those experiences that I have made my philosophy stronger as those actions may not make me feel good about myself. Also I care much more about how I feel about myself than how other feel about me.

5. – Why am I not essentialist?

Because I am not sure that there is a greater power that has already defined for me what my essence and purpose is in this life. Though I comprehend the possibility of its existence I do not believe it would play any role in what my essence should be.

6. – Why am I existentialist?

Because I believe that I am free to establish which my essence and purpose are and to
