Do androids dream of electric sheep?

I have chosen this book because the title gave me good feeling, also the cover and the images made me think that it would be interesting and could be worth. Also the fact that is a fiction novel attracted my attention, since I like the world of science and also the world of action and sci-fi movies or books. Another reason was that a classmate recommended it to me. That was what finally helped me make the choice.

Plot:

The novel presents two parallel stories that cross as it goes in the book: the first is a day in the life of Rick Deckard, an android killer that tracks down renegade androids who have assumed human identities in a post war and apocalyptic world where animals are rare and the human population has migrated to other planets. Also with the existence of a really strong religion imposed on the Earth, Mercerism.

The novel takes place in the North of California, Deckard works on a police office and rarely works as bounty hunter but accepts the cases that his workmate, Holden, does not want or have time to pursue. But this day Rick knows that his friend has been hospitalized following an android which attacked him.

Holden was investigating the recent escape of 8 Nexus-6 androids, which two of them were retired by him, leaving Deckard to kill the remaining ones. Deckard accepts the assignment in order to give his life meaning. Also discussing with his neighbor, Barbour, realizes that owning a real animal would give meaning to his life instead of feeding and looking after his electric sheep.

Deckard travels by flying car to Rosen Industries, the company's new Nexus-6 series, in Seattle, in order to test a "empathy test," a standard method for detection of androids posing as human. There he is introduced to a girl named Rachael presented to him as a human but she fails the test, thus being an android. Also she attempts to bribe Deckard because she is used by the corporation to protect other androids from android killers through sexual favors.

Rick following an attempt to slash an android opera singer, he is arrested and taken to a fake police station staffed by androids and he is accused of being an android before he managed to escape thanks to Phil Resch, who is another android killer.

After that, Deckard's story is interwoven with that of J.R. Isidore, a "special" (genetically damaged by the radioactive dust) driver for an animal repair shop. He lives alone in an empty apartment building with little outside contact in a suburb. Meanwhile Pris Stratton, an identical model Nexus-6 as Rachael Rosen, moves into the building, and the lonely Isidore attempts to befriend her.

Only that Pris and her android escapist friends enlist Isidore to trap Rick who is chasing them down, and then Deckard recruits Rachael to help him. However Rachael attempts to bribe him again using her sexuality but without results.

Accordingly, Deckard confronts the androids alone and succeeds in killing them, causing Isidore to break down from the loss of his only friends. After that, he travels by car to an isolated sand dunes area in Oregon in order to meditate and he has a moment of clarity.
