PACKAGING vs PACKING

People often use the terms "packaging" and "packing" in the same, they both involve products in a related manner and help in the safe shipment of products so they do not get damaged however, they involve different aspects of protecting the products.

PACKAGING is the process of wrapping products with special material and products can be packaged either individually or in sets. In addition to protecting the products during shipping, packaging helps to make the products more presentable to the customers so it also represent a marketing strategy. Different materials are used to package different types of products to offer the best protection and convenience.

There is an increasing trend toward the use of recycled material for packaging, which can be used even in packaging food products without compromising them in any way. There is also more interest in the use of biodegradable products to enhance a greener environment.

PACKING, on the other hand, is the process of placing the items that have already been packaged into larger containers for shipping. So, packaging is very important before packing products because the larger cartons can be handled roughly in addition to being loaded and offloaded a number of times. If the products are not packaged well inside the carton, they can rub against one another and get damaged.

When packing products it is possible to provide extra protection by using such things as plastic bubble wrap, paperboard structures, air cushion plastic boards, corrugated fiberboard pad and shredded or crushed paper.

CRATING is the action of using or packing in a crate that is a container commonly made of wood, steel and aluminium in some case that is used for storing and shipping or transporting goods so as to protect them, it size depend on the needs of each product from pretty large for heavy and big items o small platic crates for delivering bottles and other fragile items.

Transportation methods and storage conditions must always be considered when designing a crate, there are factors like shock, vibration, differences in pressure, temperature and humidity that could affect the content of the crate and the holding strength of the fasteners (mostly the nails and staples) in the crate
