Birth Control

When we talk about birth control we refer to the different methods of contraception that prevents or reduces the chances of pregnancy in heterosexual relation. Knowledge of these methods contributes to decision making about the number of children they want to have, unwanted pregnancies and teenage pregnancies. The methods used after having a sexual relationship called emergency contraception. The story indicates that it was in the second half of the twentieth century when widespread using different methods to modern contraceptives. The spread of family planning and sex education favored large-scale use. No method of contraception can be considered better than another or is absolutely secure. Each method has its indications, so that different users need to analyze what is best suited to the circumstances and allow better sexual health. The theoretical efficiency of each method increases considerably if used correctly.

In Puerto Rico birth control is one of the biggest problems we have and not given due attention. Here we have almost half a million young people from 10-17 years, which represents 13% of the population. The number of births to teenage mothers is very high: 71.5 per thousand women 15-19. In 2000 there were nearly 11,400 births to fewer than 20 years, one in five births in Puerto Rico. The rate is similar to that seen for ten years. The 18.5% of women between 15 and 19 have had a pregnancy. The 15% of women and 6% of men between 15 and 19 years are married, significantly higher than those in the U.S. or Europe.

Given these statistics tend to be increasing every year, my opinion; the taxpayer should have birth control in Puerto Rico. We are currently going through an economic crisis which leads to solutions that are favorable to our wellbeing. From the economic point of view I agree, because in this way would reflect an improvement to the taxpayer's pocket. For example, a couple with a child receiving assistance because their economic status is not the best I agree, but if they have another child knowing that he can keep that's where I deny the help. Furthermore couples who are well off can the children they want as long as you can keep. It is very complex issues in which other factors enter political, religious, human rights etc. certainly have to see the impact this would have. But I think the taxpayer taking birth control over the mind greatly help not only in economic, but the shortage of breath, lack of land, sanitation, planning and others.
