My Story

My name is Katherine Adams, and I am sharing a short story about my life with you right now. I am going to share some information about my family and why I love them so much. I am writing this story because I want you to know how wonderful my family is, although we are an ordinary family. I will tell you some things about my mom, my dad and my brother, John. I have been waiting for the perfect moment to let the world know about my incredible story. I am starting with my favorite part of my story.

I always loved for my mom to tell me stories about herself. No matter how tired she was, she never adumbrated them. She always fills the tales with the most amazing details, and they are always incredible. Another thing she does is tell the stories with a great eloquence. At different points she stopped and said: “Now, what do you think that word means?” To this day, when I want to bug my friends, I use big words that I first learned from my Mom. The other day, my mom was telling me about when she met dad:

“I was 17 years old, but already knew the kind of man I wanted to marry. So, I am going to tell you about the day I met your daddy. So, I was riding the Amtrak train between Providence and Philadelphia during my senior year at college and the door at the end of my car opened. A tall and handsome boy came in.”

My mom was making a very interesting pause. “Mom!” I insisted. She was blushing. I think she was remembering my dad in that very moment.

“Oh, sorry. I will continue my story now. Well, if I had been shy, I might have looked out the train window. But where would I be now? So, I let my eyes locked with his as he walked on the moving train. He smiled at me, not a big smile, just enough to let me know he had spotted me too.”

So, you know, my mom told me the complete story. Very romantic.

“I could tell that this was no ordinary crush, I knew in that moment that I was going to love this man forever.” Then, my favorite part of the story follows.

“We pull into the train station in Philadelphia. It was time for me to get off. He was going to another place. When I was going down, he came in front of me, he took my hand and gave it a little squeeze. No kiss. He said ‘if it is the thought that counts, consider yourself kissed´ he was such a gentleman!” Mama said she just about died when my dad said that. Then, she said to herself, “That man will be my husband.” And now he is. “We wrote letters every day and one year later he moved to Philadelphia with me.  “
