NEGATION (SUMMARY)

Children use the functions of negations very early. They learn to comment on the disappearance of objects, to refuse a suggestion, or reject an assertion, even at the single word stage.

Loise Blooms thought that this negation has stages. First, children uses gestures and single words, then they are developing the use, until they can make grammatically correct sentences which express negation.

The following stages have been observed in the acquisition of English, like in other languages.

Monday, September 30th 2013.

This was the first class, and as unbelievable as it sounds, I was not nervous. The class took place in HDT´s Classroom. First, I started the class with a short presentation about myself with the class. Students looked very distant, quiet and not participative. The warm up Activity help to get involve students in the class, but just some students were interested in this activity.

The conversation worked fine, the Students were able to understand the principal meaning and purpose of the conversation.

Some difficult problems were detected. First, student´s vocabulary is not extensive; they cannot use the correct words in specific situations. Second, students do not have a fully understood about grammar, structures and uses of English. They did not know the meaning of Do and Have, which are considered basic verbs of the language. And third, students don’t have idea of correct pronunciation of words.

I made some mistakes, because I want to explain all the words which the students didn´t know, this thought spend much time so I could not finish to explain the enforcement activity and homework.

During this class, I can see two students who looked a little indifferent and apathetic, these girls are not very participated, and they want to spend time talking about different topics and laughing so loud. Her names are Perla and Anel. I don’t know what I can do whit them, because if I sit them in different places, they can get angry and do something that annoying me.

I think that I’m not the most excellent teacher, but I’m sure that this first practice was so beneficial to me, I can learn about the real context of class in Secondary School, the real behavior of teenagers and the real Classroom´s dynamic.

Wednesday October 2nd 2013.

It was the penultimate class, so the students were very restless and scattered, it was so difficult, but I started the class.

With the Stop Activity, students get confuse, because they don’t have vocabulary enough to complete the chart appropriately, so I had to help them almost individually. Then, with the activity at the students´ book, they looked more relaxed, and answer the questions correctly.

As I watched they cannot understand completely the topic, I put an example about the final project and put the rules to do it. This project was an Ad about community service in different places, using conditionals and some vocabulary learned during the last lesson. Students make pairs and look for a place and kind of community services.

My tutor said to students that this project would count as part of their evaluation; it was so beneficial to me, because this way, the students would take care of their homework.

The class finished, and I was a little disappointed, because I was thinking that nobody going to bring their homework in the next class. In all the time of this session, I felt uncomfortable, because I was explaining and talking to loud almost shouting but when I asked to my tutor about this she said that all gone well.

After the class, I got an idea, and I made a table with vocabulary for students with the principal words used in the class, this table will help them to make his sentences, ad , increase their vocabulary and to studying for their exam.
